Cinderella in Vietnamese

Today was fairly uneventful, which I’m totally in favor of. Again, class was 6 hours long. We did get to plan a lesson and teach the other class members. And that was fun. I’ve got a long way to go as far as teaching is concerned.

We went back to Fanny’s tonight for ice cream. I still can’t get over that ice cream this good can exist in Vietnam. They had an ice cream buffet, all you can eat, for VDN 75,000 which is about $3.50. People were packed in there. And since Vietnamese don’t believe in forming lines, it made for a pushy evening.

After ice cream, we went to the night market. They had some really unique items for sale there at prices you wouldn’t believe, but most of it was clothing and jewelry and fake this and that. We did get to have fresh coconut juice though. The vendor took a butcher knife and whacked the top right off, stuck a straw in, and handed it to us. It’s not my favorite thing but it was a good cultural experience for $0.80.

Something I did find amusing was the taxi ride home. The driver was listening to the soundtrack of Disney’s Cinderella in Vietnamese. It was pretty hilarious.

We leave for Ha Long Bay tomorrow to get away for the weekend. It’s my birthday present. I’ll have to tell you all about it when we get back.
