It’s amazing what a good night’s sleep will do for you. Today was so much better than yesterday. I was able to gain strength from the word and conversation in my quiet time this morning. I really, really love those alone times with him. Bethany and I began class at 7:30 a.m. like we have been all week. Today we talked about hot and cold climate cultures and theory of language learning. We begin a new course tomorrow in teaching English as a foreign language.
I had a sobering thought was brought to my attention today. Our professor said, “He doesn’t need you in Laos. He wants you in Laos so you can know him better.” Wow! That has so many implications. There is no pressure to make things happen unnaturally. He will accomplish what he intends to accomplish with or without me. But he is giving me the privilege of being apart of his work. And he wants me to know him more. And I want to know him more. It takes sacrifice on our part but the rewards are great.
A funny thing happened to me and Bethany this evening. We went to dinner at this restaurant we saw on the main street. We had never eaten there but the sign advertised Thai food, pizza, and coffee. Quite the combination, I know. The waitress brought us a menu and to our surprise and delight, it was in English. This we were not expecting. Since we couldn’t communicate through language, we just pointed on the menu to what we wanted which was fried noodles with chicken and vegetables. How clear can you get? We pointed to exactly what we wanted. And what did we get? Spaghetti with ham and cheese. What!? We just just laughed and ate. It would take too much effort to explain (in some form of sign language) that the order was wrong and then communicate what we really wanted.
Fun times here in Vietnam!
