Today was our first day to teach. We are teaching all this week at the Diplomatic University in Hanoi, Vietnam. This is for our practicum as we finish up our coursework for the TEFL certificate.
I have to admit, I was a little nervous. I have never really taught a lesson that I have created. But as the lesson began, I felt assured by his spirit. I had clarity of thought and speech and I know it was because of his goodness.
The topic this week is tourism. Today we focused tourism concerns found in the newspaper and learned how to respond to those concerns. We did a lot of group work to let the students practice speaking English as much as possible. We had a Vietnamese professor evaluating us. And she had many good things to say after the lesson was over.
I forgot to mention that each class period is two and a half hours long! That’s a lot of material to come up with. And I don’t want to complain, but none of these universities have air conditioning, and it’s blazing hot. Oh, yes, and the class began at 7:00 a.m.!
Okay. That’s all. I think I really like teaching.
