Well, I thought we were finished with school. But I was so wrong. We started studying the Lao language today. I had no idea what I was in for. It’s so funny to hear myself make sounds in a tonal, Asian language. There are two classes, six in each. And Bethany and I are in different classes. We were told that couples learn better when separated. I found out why. Tonight when we were studying at Joma’s bakery and coffee shop, Bethany was correcting everything I was saying. Now that’s a language learner’s dream. (Sense the sarcasm.) I will say that later on in the evening, we studied very well together. We thought we were the same in just about everything, but apparently not learning skills. She needs a partner to study and I have to be alone to study. As you may infer, that can create problems.
Another fun thing is we bought bicycles. Bethany got a red one and I got a bright orange one. We’re just riding around Vientiane like a local. Bethany is loving it. She always wanted to ride bikes in the States. It’s funny how he fulfills your every desire, just in a little different way than you had anticipated.
I’ll try to post pictures of the language school and our new bicycles tomorrow. Thanks for lifting us up. And thanks for all the precious emails. We need them.

ReplyDeleteHahahaha. I can hear Bethany correcting you! We're the same way when it comes to learning skills. Can you guess who Jacob's style matches? :) I can't wait to see the bikes. How exciting! Love you guys!

We've heard it said that if your marriage can survive language school, it can survive anything! LOL Mick hates it when I correct him, too. ;) I've thoroughly enjoyed following your updates. Lifting you guys up from over here in Spain!

Good luck with the language! I know that when we were in Korea, we were floored when we tried to say anything - the tones are so very different!
